We Reviewed Hundreds Of Subscription Sites To Save You Money. Here Are the Best Ones We Found.
These days, it seems like everywhere you look there’s a subscription site for something or a subscription option at the very least. Need a box full of goodies for your dog, cat, or hamster that delivers at the same time each month, so you don’t have to think about it? There’s a subscription for that. And what about testing out the top make-up brands before you go and spend a fortune at the store? There’s a subscription for that too.
Subscription sites are all the rage these days, and for a good reason too. These sites and monthly boxes offer quality products that are tailored to a specific need or product. Plus, no matter what the subscription is, nine times out of ten you’re going to be saving money by joining. And not having to think about purchasing these items each month is just an added bonus.
While a lot of subscription sites and subscription boxes are just for fun, like those book club boxes, Book(ish) Box, that sends book-related paraphernalia along with monthly books, that doesn’t mean that signing up for certain ones can’t save you money. Sure, maybe you don’t necessarily need that new Jane Austen t-shirt each month, but there are plenty of things out there that you do use on a regular basis.
There are hundreds of subscription sites out there, and plenty that add a little extra bang for your buck, but these three sites give you the most for your money and help rack up some extra cash.
Amazon
Nearly everyone uses Amazon to shop for presents, household items, school supplies, and even random items that maybe you don’t necessarily need, but it’s so cheap you can’t turn it down. And for the people who don’t use Amazon, they at least know what it is. Amazon has become one of the largest shopping meccas online and for a good reason too. It has nearly everything a person could want, all at the click of a button.
Many people are aware of Amazon’s Prime Membership feature where you can pay $99 per year and receive free two-day shipping for all Prime eligible items. It’s a great deal, especially for those who are frequent Amazon shoppers, and it really cuts down on expenses when you do not have to shell out $5+ for shipping every time.
But what some may not be aware of is that Amazon has another money saving service available to customers, Amazon Subscribe and Save. This option pops up when you’re checking out on food items, personal care items, household cleaning supplies, or similar items. If you opt-in for the Subscribe and Save option, you’ll start getting these items on a schedule, and you’ll get them at a discounted rate.
Now, these discounts aren’t astronomical, but they do add up. For instance, say you’re purchasing toilet paper in bulk from Amazon, and the price is $23.99 for Cottonelle Ultra Comfort Care toilet paper. If you select Subscribe and Save, you can get that same toilet paper for $22.79 and have it delivered automatically at the time you’re most likely to need it, from every month to every six months.
The savings with Amazon’s Subscribe and Save aren’t huge, but if you’re using it for items you purchase regularly, those savings could easily start to add up. Plus, wouldn’t it be nice never to have to worry about running out of toilet paper when you least expect it?
Dollar Shave Club
Whether you’re a grown man wanting the best razor to keep your facial hair in check, a lady tired of constant nicks and knacks on your legs, or a parent wanting to get your child started off on the right foot with a set of useful razors, the Dollar Shave Club is perfect for you.
This is one of those subscription boxes that while at first glance you may seem a little wary of, but in the long run, you’ll be glad that you took the plunge and signed up because it is so much cheaper than purchasing razors at the local pharmacy or grocery store. And these razors provide optimum comfort, much more than the cheap, one-bladed razors.
Signing up for the box is relatively straightforward. You visit the site and start filling out the information. Your first box will include a razor handle for free; then you can choose the type of blade you want, starting off with the $1/month (plus $2 shipping) basic blade to the $9/month (with free shipping) high-end blade. However, for the first month, any quality blade is only $1, with free shipping of course. And the great part is that you can change your razor at any time. You can even switch to every-other-month delivery if that works best for you, too.
You’re going to be getting higher quality razors, on a regular schedule, for less than half (or more) of what you’re going to pay at the store. So, not only will you be saving money, you’ll be doing it in the smoothest skin around.
Quip
Similarly to the Dollar Shave Club, Quip is a monthly subscription service that focuses on quality hygiene that’s affordable for every budget. But, instead of razors, Quip takes a closer look at your smile, especially keeping those pearly whites shining and cavity free. Plus, for those who are guilty of using the same toothbrush until a free one from the dentist comes around, this will keep over-used toothbrushes out of your cabinet, and a fresh one always in stock.
When you visit Quip’s website, you’ll first be given the option of choosing between a plastic handle for $25 or a metal one for $40 to be the base for your new electric toothbrush. And you’ll have the option of purchasing a wall mount or a travel cover for your brush as well. Then, after you’ve selected your handle, you’ll get new bristles for your brush for only $5 every three months. Or, if you don’t want to have to think about toothpaste either, you can opt for a $10 payment every three months and receive bristles and a tube of toothpaste.
While any amount of money for something as basic as a toothbrush can seem expensive, even those cheap $3 brushes, this subscription is a real money saver, especially if you factor in the cost of your average electric toothbrush, plus additional bristles. Once the initial lump purchase is out of the way, $5 every three months isn’t a bad deal in the slightest, and your teeth will be happy you finally started changing out those bristles.
At the end of the day, subscription sites and subscription boxes are all about what you’re getting, how much of it you’re getting, and why you’re getting it. If the product, or service, is something you purchase regularly anyways, subscriptions are the way to go. They’re quick, mindless, and save you money, all while making your life a little simpler in the process.
While these are just a few of the ones we’ve found to be the most useful, there are still plenty more to choose from out there, all you have to do is look. So good luck, happy subscribing and happy shopping!
